Nell May in Dry Run Wet Jog

Jogging

Nell May’s work in the exhibition Dry Run Wet Jog at Elam’s projectspace B431:

The word jogging seems like it’s from the 70s*. Nell’s exercises in gradients, cross hatching and freehand painted straight lines are similarly healthy, wholesome and plausibly retro (her newsprint is faded, and her gradients are almost lunar). They coolly suggest freedom, experimentation and casual technical prowess.

*Though Wikipedia tells me it was more like 1593 - and not irrelevantly, an antiquated use of ‘jog’ also referred to short quick movements, intentional or not.
