Gorilla Perfumes
Tuca Tuca - a pale but deep floral violet (along the lines of Guerlain’s Meteorites, but less powder) and fairly clean jasmine. The jasmine is irritating here, too sweet and similar to what’s in their Vanillary (not the brilliant ashy heavy version like in their Flying Fox). There’s some green in the violet leaf, which is nice but doesn’t get enough play compared to the floral aspect. Dry down is sweet buttery and clean-musky. Lasts forever, I could still smell parts of it the next morning (my least favorite parts though). Definitely feminine, but I feel like violets are an oddly manly flower so am further annoyed that the jasmine here ruins that idea.
Lust - if you’re into that second version of Lush jasmine then this is it, so I really love Lust. It only seems to last a couple of hours on me though, which is heart breaking and I don’t love at all.
Orange Blossom - Super neroli heavy, floral and orange. The top notes itch my throat, but it’s worth it. The dry down is beautiful, still bright but subdued honey woods (the type of honey that tastes floral!). It’s lasted half the day so far. Unisex, but maybe a bit more effort for guys.
The Smell of Freedom - I remember thinking ‘this smells really good!’, but other than that it’s vague - herbal but bubbly, like ginger ale, only not very dry either. It didn’t last very long and didn’t have much silage or progression. Unisex, not particularly difficult either way.
The sample set also includes the new Imogen Rose, and Karma and Vanillary. For sale here.
